Novel Excerpt 2"NOOO!" Arrissia screamed as her father's sword fell limply from his hand and he clutched at the blade impaled through his middle. She raised her crossbow and tried desperately to aim through the tears clouding her vision as the mercenary pulled his blade free. He hefted his sword, advancing on Darius and Arrissia fired. Taithorin heard the shot, spun in her direction, and the bolt thudded solidly into his left shoulder, nearly taking the man from his feet. He stumbled backwards, his sword arm cart wheeling as he tried to stay on his feet, and Caleb watched in horror as one of the soldiers raised his own crossbow, levelled it at Arrissia, and fired. Time seemed to slow as Caleb watched the bolt streak across the clearing, deflect slightly off Arrissia's own crossbow, knocking it from her grasp, and then the sharpened steel bolt tore through her leather armour, embedding itself in her stomach. Her hands went to the feathered shaft jutting from her center and her knees buckled. Caleb wat
Shadows of the Past - Prologue
The Closing of The Prophet's War
The Fortress of the Dark Lord stood broken and lost, its master defeated for the moment. Dou'Ranghon, the great black citadel, was perched like a gargoyle along the lip of a ravine the bottom of which could not be seen. Mist swirled hundreds of paces below obscuring any possible view of the bottom. A great stone and iron bridge ten paces wide and fifty long, spanned the maw and was the only means of entering the dark fortress. The ominous and daunting face of the castle was only enhanced by the twisted, dark iron points that lined either side of the bridge like teeth on a giant saw.
The weary, battle-torn Mage stood at the end of the bridge like a silent sentinel, his back as straight as his exhausted, broken frame would allow. His helm lay at his feet, it had not constricted his breathing, open as it was about the mouth, but it was no longer needed. His shoulder length blond hair billowed freely past his face, normally as bright and lustrous a

Millennia later, both the prophecy and the weapon of the Lightbringer would fall into the hands of the Darakkolin, the prophesized Lord of Darkness. Using the knowledge of the prophecy and the awesome powers of his enemys weapon, he would overcome all who stood in his way; all except one mortal man.
Two centuries have passed since the downfall of the Obsidian Lord and the end of the Prophets War.
Now Caleb, a boy from a small village, will find his life shaped by strange dreams, dark machinations, and possibly even fate itself.
After his life is torn asunder by the destruction of his village, Caleb finds himself living a double life, posing as Taelen, the Mage who destroyed the Dark Lord, and trying to live a normal life in the off time.
The TrundlerThe waste land behind the fire station is always silent. No birds sing there, and even the wild rabbits and feral cats avoid it. Weedy wildflowers nod their seasonal heads in the breeze. Lying fallow in the midst of housing developments, shopping malls, the new movie theater — the vacant lot stands out like a knife wound on a woman’s placid face, shocking, brazen, ugly.
It is always empty. Except for one thing: a ragged heap of old trash, all nasty black tar paper and vicious snarls of rusted wire, car parts and broken glass and other junkyard jetsam. The embodiment of injury waiting to happen, an invitation to a tetanus shot... the city never hauled it away. No one ever wants anywhere near it; it radiates an eerie sense of calculating watchfulness.
And at night, it wanders.
When darkness falls, and the last cars heading into the hives of tract housing stop illuminating the asphalt with moving-picture shadows, it… unfolds. Bitter, broken tangles, grotesquely mov
